Beyond Golf
One may wonder with instant disbelief what Golf can offer,
like other much-publicized games like football or cricket. This individual
game is thought of to be another breed of sport for the rich and elite, left untouched
by the commoner. But if one looks at it closely they can see the brighter side
of Golf. Golf is more than a game itself. It is as big as its playing field. One
can convincingly say that it helps us in many ways. Blessed with green carpet
spread, the roots of each blade of grass prevent soil erosion, retain rainwater, protects water table, and thus happily remains as “environmental watchdog” protecting our Ecosystem. This statement is no exaggeration. Golf is the
only game that has the huge and vast expanse of the green turf and they become natural
“oxygen factories” generating much-needed oxygen for us to breathe and live.
This is also backed by ample scientific evidence. We have now come to a stage
to grab every opportunity to protect our planet from the abuse of the environment,
and Golf is one good game that can help in this endeavor.
In India, KVGC keeps the Golf flag flying high with its number
one ranking awarded by Golf Industry Association. With its huge presence and
dominating initiatives, it has proved its top ranking status. KVGC’s “golf for
all” principle of taking golf the common man is laudable. To add to its
credentials, it has adopted a village called Damlole adjacent to its golf course and this village has been fully
integrated with KVGC, creating multiple economic opportunities and “inclusive
growth” even for the poorest of poor. Back in late ’90s, Japanese car
manufacturer Toyota motor decided to set up their first motor car plant in
India adjacent to the Golf course called Eagleton Golf club. So in the
same way KVGC has embarked on a much bigger plan for India ie..to support the
poor in the creation of jobs and also on the health front.
Finally, now one can make strong statements in support of
Golf and the inventors of this game can hold their head high with a sense of
pride and responsibility.
Hence looking beyond the game Golf, one can see a a new horizon, a new big hope for mankind
